William C. Wilson
Forensic Technical Expert

William Wilson has been involved in different facets of the automotive industry since 1970. He started as a franchise dealer for Shell Oil working his way up to owner-manager of seven stations/garages in the metro-Lansing area. This was followed by franchises with Standard Oil and Union 76 before deciding to focus on the repair end of the business in 1979. Bill & Charlie's Auto Repair was founded as an independent repair facility servicing both foreign and domestic vehicles in that year. Mr. Wilson served as master-mechanic and owner of the multi-person facility until he sold it in 2006.

During his career, automobiles became increasingly complex and computer/sensor controlled. Mr. Wilson has always stayed at the forefront of industry changes, incorporating the latest equipment into his practices. As a result, during his years as an independent facility owner, Mr. Wilson was often called upon by the industry to design coursework to instruct auto mechanics in these techniques for companies as diverse as Sun Electric and Ford Motor Company. This instructional career has recently turned to guest instructor for Michigan State University in the Department of Highway Safety.

His career as a forensic technical expert started in 1985 when he was approached by Auto-Owners Insurance to investigate a car fire by applying his industry expertise. Subsequently he became a frequent consultant as technical expert to forensic companies Snell Environmental Group and Investigative Engineering & Consulting. As this portion of his business became larger, he founded Investigative Mechanics, Inc. to handle the demand and established separate facilities with technical laboratory to handle chain of evidence.

Mr. Wilson has testified as an expert witness in both Federal and State courts across the United States. He has also served on cases throughout the Continental US and Canada. A more detailed CV is available below.
